Kopflex recommends a maximum operating misalignment of .06 degrees per gear mesh (equivalent parallel offset of .001 inch/inch of gear separation) at operating speeds less than 3600 RPM; and .03 degrees per gear mesh (equivalent parallel offset of .0005 inch/inch of gear separation) for speeds in excess of 3600 RPM. Installation alignment should be half these values. The catalog lists a maximum angular misalignment that each coupling will allow -- 1/2 degrees per gear mesh for Fasts, and 1-1/2 degrees for Series H and Waldron -- and these values apply for static conditions only.
Note: Minimizing the operating angle of a gear coupling, combined with proper lubrication and maintenance, will maximize the life of a gear coupling. Always refer to and follow the proper installation and alignment instructions when installing and servicing a coupling.
